Meet The New Captains: Sam Scherl ’21 and Marwan Tarek ’22

Hello from New York and Egypt!

We are so excited to be captains for the upcoming season! Both of us have had such an incredible experience on the team over the past few years and look forward to leading such a talented, cohesive team. The team has done so well over these last couple of seasons and we are thrilled to do our part in continuing the momentum in this upcoming season.

Sam Scherl:

“I am a junior living in Adams house, concentrating in computer science with a secondary in economics. I am from New Jersey and grew up in a big squash family, where all my cousins have played college squash. My cousin Zeke was captain of the Harvard team in 2013. Being on the squash team has been my favorite part of my college experience. From competing in intense matches, to forming close friendships with my teammates, it’s truly been unforgettable. I am very honored to have been selected as captain and can’t wait to compete and lead the team for my final season.”

Marwan Tarek:

“I am a sophomore in Lowell studying economics. I started playing squash when I was 4 and have been in love with the game ever since. As a junior player, my highlight was being the captain of the Egyptian junior national team in Chennai, India 2018 where we won the World Team Championship. I’m looking forward to continuing the success which my teammates and I have had and trying to lead the team to another national title. Being a member of this prestigious program is something that I am grateful for and will cherish forever.”

How’s the team doing?

Despite everyone being quarantined in their homes across the world, the team is making the best of the situation, staying in touch with weekly meetings, Zoom workouts and movie nights. Our main focus during this time is making sure the team camaraderie stays strong and that people are able to workout in whatever way is available for them. The quarantine has provided many of us the ability to cross train in ways we were previously not very experienced, such as running and biking. Despite spanning 15 hours of time zones and 4 continents, the team is constantly FaceTiming and Zooming  to stay in touch.

Thank you to all the alumni to their continued support, none of the team’s success would be possible without all of you! We’re glad to be able to introduce ourselves and hopefully can meet you all soon.
