While we are celebrating 100 years of Harvard Squash tonight in New York, our players are getting ready for the season’s last event, the individual championships in Philadelphia this weekend. 7 men and 7 women will represent Harvard at the tournament.
In the men’s top draw (Pool Trophy), Marwan Tarek ’23 is seeded #2. Tarek was undefeated throughout the regular season and only lost against Cornell’s #1 at men’s team nationals last weekend (after the team match had been decided). Tarek won the individual title in 2020. In addition, #11 George Crowne ’23 and #16 Ido Burstein ’24 represent Harvard in the A draw.
On the women’s side (Ramsay Cup), Marina Stefanoni ’24 is also seeded #2. She reached the semis of the tournament last year, losing against the eventual champion, Cornell’s Sivasangari Subramaniam, who is the #1 seed this year as well. Stefanoni is joined by teammates #9 Saran Nghiem ’26 and #14 Habeeba Eldefrawy ’25 in the top bracket.
With 6 players in the top draws, Harvard is guaranteed 6 All America honors this year. In addition, the Crimson has 4 men and 4 women playing in the B divisions. Each B division winner will become second-team All American.
The tournament starts Friday morning at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center.
