It’s been quite a season for Harvard Squash and this past weekend made it that much more special.
After Ali Farag ’14 became the #1 ranked squash player in the world on March 1st and won the world title in Chicago on March 2nd, Victor Crouin ’22 and Gina Kennedy ’20 won the CSA individual national titles on March 3rd.
Crouin was dominant throughout the weekend and didn’t lose a single game on the way to the championship, beating St. Lawrence’s Mohamed El Gawarhy in the final.
Meanwhile, Gina Kennedy came back to win her semifinal from being 2-1 down against last year’s national champion, Penn’s Reeham Sedky. In the final, Kennedy took a 3-1 win against Cornell’s Sivasangari Subramaniam, who beat Sabrina Sobhy ’19 in the semifinal round. This was Kennedy’s third appearance in the national final and second championship.
The individual championships conclude the extraordinary season for Harvard Squash:
2 x Ivy League Championships
2 x Team National Championships
2 x Individual National Championships
This is the first time since the 1995 season that both the Harvard men’s and the women’s teams have swept the Ivy championships as well as the team and individual national championships in the same year.
The teams will be celebrating the season at the annual team banquet on April 5th. You should have received an invitation via e-mail but if you haven’t and are interested in attending, please let us know.
