Crowne Through To The Final At Individuals

After his third upset at this year’s individual nationals, Harvard’s 11-seed George Crowne ’23 is through to tomorrow’s Pool Trophy final.

In today’s semifinal, Crowne was down 0-2 against Cornell’s 7-seed Veer Chotrani (who beat Harvard’s Marwan Tarek ’23 in yesterday’s quarterfinal). After winning the third 12-10, Crowne gained momentum and took the rest of the games 11-9, 11-7, playing his best squash of the season at just the right time. On his way to the final, Crowne has beaten Penn’s #1, Drexel’s #1 and Cornell’s #1; all seeded higher than him.

Tomorrow Crowne will face Trinity’s #1 Mohamed Sharaf, the 4-seed who took out the top-seed, UVA’s Aly Hussein, in the other semifinal today.

In the women’s A draw (Ramsay Cup), Marina Stefanoni ’24 made it through to the semifinals but lost against Columbia’s 3-seed, Sin Yuk Chan 3-1 today. Saran Nghiem ’26 made it into the quarterfinals before losing against the top-seed, Cornell’s Sivasangari Subramaniam, in four close games yesterday.

Harvard also has three players in the B draw finals battling for second-team All America honors tomorrow: Serena Daniel ’24 in the Holleran South, Brecon Welch ’25 in the Holleran West and Tate Harms ’25 in the Molloy North division.
