Wins against Columbia and Cornell

Both teams took convincing wins against the Ivy rivals this past weekend. The teams are now getting ready for Wednesday’s match against Trinity.

The toughest match of the weekend was the men’s match against #3 Columbia. Despite the 8-1 final scoreline, the match could have taken a turn during the first round of play: Harvard lost at #2 and had two close matches at #6 and #8 (the Ivy League has randomized the order of play this season). Senior Dylan Murray at #8 eventually won 11-9 in the fourth and so did freshman Sean Hughes at #6.

Junior David Ryan at #5 turned his match around after losing the first game; the rest of the matches were over in three games. Perhaps the most impressive win came at #1: Freshman Saad Abouaish took down Columbia’s #1, Osama Khalifa, the runner-up of the 2015 individual nationals.

The women’s match against Columbia and both the men’s and women’s matches against Cornell on Sunday were more convincing (all 9-0 wins).

During the women’s Cornell match, both teams were wearing blue socks to raise awareness for The Blue Feet Foundation (http://bluefeetfoundation.com/). It was founded by two kids, Will and Matty (picture above), who play junior squash at the Murr Center.

The match against Trinity starts at 4pm on Wednesday and will be streamed at http://www.ivyleaguedigitalnetwork.com/harvard.
